RANKINGS · UPDATED SEPTEMBER 13, 2026

Countries and operators with the most mapped data centers

Our map holds 4,661 physical data-center records in 112 countries. United States has by far the most, with 1,774 records (38%). The largest attributed operator is Amazon Web Services with 305 records.

These rankings count mapped records, not facilities, capacity or market share. Most records come from OpenStreetMap volunteers, so well-mapped countries can rank higher than less-mapped ones with similar infrastructure. A campus may be one record or several building records. Cloud regions are excluded. Methodology

An operator’s count depends on how its sites were mapped: a campus drawn as one area counts once, while the same campus drawn building by building counts several times. See all operators →

Record counts say nothing about size. For electricity use, see global data-center electricity, US state shares, Ireland’s metered data and Google and Meta campus reports.

Frequently asked questions

Which country has the most data centers on the map?

United States, with 1,774 of 4,661 mapped physical records (38%) in the September 13, 2026 snapshot, followed by France (361) and United Kingdom (292). These are mapped records, not an official census.

Which company operates the most mapped data centers?

Amazon Web Services is attributed as operator on 305 mapped records, followed by Digital Realty (170) and Equinix (169). 1,797 records have no operator in the source data, so the ranking is incomplete.

Why are these not official data-center counts?

Most records come from OpenStreetMap, where volunteers map buildings and campuses. A campus can be one record or several building records, and mapping coverage differs between countries. The ranking shows how many data centers are mapped, not how many exist or how much capacity they have.
